Push cover downwards (arrow's direction) and raise. Insert four pieces of usual alkaline- manganese batteries,
penlight type of 1.5 V, AA-size, observing the correct polarity, as marked in battery holder. Look battery cover
and catch it.
0nly alkaline-manganese batteries are suitable for the flash unit, of MIGNON/penlight/AA-size, 1.5 V each, in-
stantly DAIMON MN 1500, EVER READY E-91, MALLORY MN 1500, UCAR E-91, VARTA No.7244 etc.
ATTENTION
Any uncorrect insertion of batteries prevent correct operation of flash conducting to eventual damages.
Cameras with automatic flash control
First set the correct guide-number on the camera - see technical specifications - and set principally the Computer-
Selector (15) in pos. "M".
Bring the reflector in basic position.
Multi -dedicated contact system
The multi-dedicated contact system enables you to adapt the UNOMAT BC 32 TD to the automatic flash systems
of the 35mm SLR cameras made by NIKON, MINOLTA, CANON and ASAHI PENTAX. The MD switch (16) must be
set to the camera before the flash is mounted on the camera.

When the flash has been mounted on the hot shoe of the camera, the special contacts in the base (20) of the
flash automatically set the camera shutter to "X".
The actual switching over does not take place until the "ready" indication of the flashlight lights up. The
camera shutter operates normally when the flashlight is not switched on.
The following signals appear, in the viewfinder of the various camerasl
NIKON Model FE: The red LED at the top of the viewfinder lights up.
Model FM: The red LED tights up at l/60th sec.
MINOLTA Model XD: The over-exposure arrow at the top of the viewfinder blinks.
XD7: Same as for XD.
XDl1: Same as for XD.
XGM: The red LED blinks at 1/60th sec.
XD5: Same as for XD.
XGl: Same as for XGM.
XGg: Same as for XGM.

Set the aperture ring of the camera to "manual" and select the same aperture to
which the flashlight has been set.
When you press down the shutter-release button to its first stop, the needle of the
AE-l will point at "4" when the flash is ready to be fired. On the A-1, the readings
1/60, F and aperture 8 (9.S) will light up. The camera aperture remains unchanged.
: fi:"il:ffi f,?'i;. the camera can arso be used in automatic mode. rhe camera must
be set to "A". The f lashlight will automatically set the AE-1 to aperture "4" and
the A-1 to aperture "8" or 9.5. The computer aperture of the AE-l must therefore
be set to "4" (at 2l DIN) and the computer aperture of the A-1 must be set to "8"
(at 21 DIN). When the flashlight is ready for firing, the aperture and the shutter time

of Using cameras with central contact, simply push in the flash with the slip-on-foot (2) in the hot-shoe
camera. Hereby, the. syncro- connection is made'

attached Using cameras without central contact, the connection from camera to flash is realised by the
syncro-cable (19). Insert the s/ncro-cable (tS) in the plug (6) and connect the other end with "X"-contact
of camera. Observe strictly the hints of camera's manufacturer!
Setting/Adiustment of camera
Should ybur camera have an adjustable syncronisation ("X", "M" or various flash-cable contacts) use always
,,X" - contact. Recent cameras are always syncronized by "X", without specified marking. Select shutter- time
according to instruction manual of camera. Using cameras with diaphragm-shutter optionally up to l/250 sec' -t/L25 (mos1y sec.) When focal plane shutters cameras are used, select I/60 sec., distance as usually.View original page 9Page 10 · Read text

The marking (U) of diaphragma-slider (10) to set to sensibilty-number of film used. The 2 marks (Zt!
have opposite aperture values on the aperture- slide (10), indicating the work-apertures available for selec-
tion, depending if a larger flash distance is preferred or larger depth of focus. The aperture hereby found
should be set on the camera.
bl Adjustment of Computer-automation _-
Select the desired setting by the computer-sr,ritch (15); the computer-aperture should be transferred to
camera. The distance marking, to the right of aperture-slider (meters or feet) indicates simultaneously the
maximal possible distance for the setting chosen. The following 3 settings are possible.
. GREEN: Greatest aperture, minimal depth of focus, maximal flashing range from 1 to 8 meters. RED : Smallest aperture, maximal depth of focus, flashing range 0.6 to 4 meters. M : Manual position- see para "Manual Application".
c) Computer with serial circuit
Light regulation, thyristorized
The serial circuit with thyristors is economizing excess energy, which is being destroyed in normal computer
flash units' In other words, only as many of energy is being absorbed as the correct exposure of picture
require, the residuary energy is stored. Here is the result: super-short flash sequences uo to 0.5 sec.and up
to 2.500 f lashes per set of batteries, depending f rom distance to object. Here is the rule: The shorter the
distance to object, the shorter the flash sequence and the higher the amount of flashes per set of batteries.

Open flash method
Flashing here is being made with open shutter. The open- flash- method ensure several f lashings within a longer
period of exposures (instantly night pictures), then to obtain effects and tricks.
Use flash unit and camera seperately. Open camera's shutter (pos. "B") and fire the flash by the manual key
(18) from various places.
Brightening flash at daylight
Advantage: lmproved deep dimension shadowy parts and more brillant colors.
Procedure: First read the corresponding aperture, suitable for the object to be pictured. Then select suitable
shutter time by an exposuremeter, setting same on the camera (observe admissable shutter time!). Reduce the
aperture read by one value/step (instantly 11 instead of 8), and set this new aperture on the camera.
Result: Remarkable brightening, share of daylight and flashlight of abt. l: I in the shadowy parts.
Brightening with computer inserted
At daylight, determinate the suitable combination time/aperture, by the exposuremeter. Then find out the suitable
combination in accordance to the admissable shutter-time of the camera and the working-aperture of computer.
Set shutter-time on the camera and reduce working-aperture of flashgun on the camera, by one value/step.
When brightening with computer inserted, please operate only within the range of computer flashing.
Please avoid any picturing positions where the flash can be reflected into the camera, by mirroring objects (cris-
tals, highly polished surf aces etc. ).

- condenser/capacitorRe - generation of flash
has not been used for a longer period, the capacitor of flash is loosing lf the flash unit is brand new or if same
a part of his capacity to store energy. One can re-complete such loss, by "re-generation":
First fire a few flashes in pos. "M", under intervalls of abt.30 seconds. Initially, the flash sequence will be
somehow longer, normalizing later after a few f lash-shots.
Should the flash unit been used only occasionally, the unit should be inserted for abt. 5 minutes, every 2 - 3
months. Capacitor's full power will be preserved by such procedure.
