    Ref lected Light Meqsurement
This is the most common method of meosuring the light reflected from o subiect to the cqmero
position. ln this ccrse exposure is controlled not only by the intensity of illuminotion but olso by
ihe color ond brightness of the subiect itself. This meter will give you the overoge exposure for
the overoll light received. The bosic methods to be followed ore,

Comero Position Merhod
t ) Point the meter to the subiect from the comero position. button)Z) Press the 'H' button (if the' needle does not reoch lO on the H scole, press the L
ond reod the number indicoted.
This mefhod con be used for photogrophing scenery. The normol scene hos no excessive bright-
ness or dorkness. The meter schoulJbe held tS to 20feet in front of the comero position, ovoid-
ing direct lighting from the sky which is for brighter ihon oppeors to the noked eye.
Close-up Mef hod
This method is,recommended for isoloted ports o scene or for portroits. The reoding should be
token very close to the subiect (obout one foot). For controsts, it is preferoble to colculote the
exposure by using the meosurements for both the light ond the shodowy portions.
                    Exomple lighter portion --- l5 J5{-:tl shodowy portion --- 7
Thus the proper exposure would be ll. In proctice, however, with block ond white film belter results
will be ochieved if proper core is foken of the detoils of dorker oreos becouse of the film tendency.
Consequently, it is odvisoble to wotch the dork oreos ond expose more rother thon too little.
Subsritute Merhod
You will often encounter subiects which it is physicolly impossible to opprooch - subiects ocross
o river, onimols in o coge, etc.-
l) Choose o suitoble substitute oround you, preferobly opproximoting the color ond brightness
    of the subiect.
2) Toke o close-up meosurement of the substitute porollel to the imoginory line between the
     subiect ond the comero.
In the event you connot find o substitute neorby, your hond moy serve the purpose.

Incident light meqsuremenl
This method is used lo meosure only light folling on o subiect ond is olso usdful when it is ififfi-
cult lo obtoin on occurote meosurement of reflected light. The exposure is determined by lhe ov-
eroge intensity of the light ond hos no beoring on the color or brightness of the subiect itself.
 l) Slide diffuser over the CdS window.
 2) Point the meter to the comero position while stonding by the subiect.
Incident light meosurement is more relioble for movies, indoor photogrophy, copy work, studio
work ond for ony controsty scenes which ore intensely bright ond dork.
Advonce meosuremenl
You will come ocross vorious events in which normol meosuremenls ore impossible to toke. In
such o cose it is s,lvi soble to set the exposure of your comero by toking odvonce meosure-
ments from the sufcject or o substitute. Of course, either the reflected lisrht or incidenl light meos-
urement os olreody described moy be used.

                                                                                                                               '.,''l'i. Color f ilms

smoll compored with the block ond white. Thus, the obsolute rt:r,urrrcy of your Model 80 will
prove to be o greot oid in toking color pictures.
There ore low serious difficulties in using color films: ofle is the smoll lolitude ond the other is thot
under different light conditions pictures of the some scene will oppeor in different lones.
The reoson for this is thot color conditions depend on the color temperoture of the illumino-
tion. ln generol, blue light shows high color temperoture while red iight shows low tempero-
lurei lf the film is exposed under different light conditions, Color negotives con be corrected
to reproduce the true colors by using correcting filters in lhe printing.

On the other hond, Reversol .olol. filr is more criticol. Deviotions from the correct exposure
will result in tronsporencies lhot connot be odjusted becouse they ore used os color slides.
Do not mix doylight ond ortificiol light. The oddition of ortificiol light brings obout color dis-
lortion thot connot be corrected. For beoutiful pictures, ovoid controsty scenes if possible. The
difference between the reodings for dork ond light should not exceed 2 steps ot rhe most.
