 Getting Acquainted With your New
 Vivitar 35ES
 Before you shoot that first, important  roil of firm, carefuily read
 the following instructions. Fold out both sets of cover flaos for
 easy reference. Get acquainted with all controls and
 operating procedures. Take a few minutes to practice
 focusing, shooting and programmrng your Vivitar 35ES for
 automatic exposure contror before you actuaily road firm in
 the camera. The time you spend learning now io operate your
 camera will be invaluable when you're ready to shoot that

Attach Camera Wrist Strap
Before you begin using your new camera, attach the Camera
Wrist Strap for safe, secure and comfortable handlino or
transporting
(A) Spring one end of "0" Ring open and srrp over and into
either of the lwo Strap Lugs O on your camera.
(B) Rotate ''0" Ring untit it snaps back to its ctosed position,
firmly securing the Wrist Strap to your camera. (Seephoto "A")

Your camera must be held correctly to assure getting
consistently good, sharp photographs   lt should be held

 a srngle 1 35volt mercury battery (Mallory PX 675, Eveready
     HS-C / H-C or equivalent) To install battery:

 rnir Insert the battery POSITIVE ( + ) side facing you (see
photo "D!') The inside of the Battery Compartment Cover  is
coded(+)asareminder
 ifil Replace the Battery Compartment Cover Check to be
sure that the battery has been inserted correctly and the
metering system is operating. Set the shutter speed at the red
" 125" and point the camera at a brightly lit sublect  lf the
needle in the Viewf inder gt moves, the metering system is
operational  lf the needle remains at the bottom of the
Viewf inder, open the Battery Compartment and recheck to
see that the ( + ) marked on the battery is facing you
Replace the battery once a year or when the meter needle
appears "sluggish" or remains at the lower right corner of the

For properly exposed photographs, your Vivitar 35ES'
Automatic Exposure System must be set for the correct DIN
(lnternational) or ASA (USA) rating for the  f ilm you're using
To set the film soeed:
i"&i Hold the Shutter Speed Ring @ firmly, push in the
DIN/ASA Setting Lever @ and align  it with the DIN/ASA
Scale Q) setting for your film

open camera back
,i:' l Insert the film cassette in the Film Chamber @ . Push
down on the Film Rewind Knob @ and turn it slightly to lock
cassette in place
I i- I Insert the  f ilm leader into one of the slots in the Film
                                                                                                                                         f ilm isTake-Up Spool @ Advance Lever @ to see that
secured on the Take-Up Spool and check for proper   f tlm
alignment on the Take-Up Sprockets @ Turn the Rewind
Crank slightly in the direction of the arrow to remove any
slack in the film cassette and recheck to see that ftlm remains
properly secured to the Take-Up Spool
it-l) Close the back cover until you hear a click indicating that
the cover is locked. Advance   f tlm by alternately winding the
Film Advance Lever and pressrng the Shutter Release Button
until the number " 1 " appears in the Exposure Counter
Window @ As the Film Lever is wound, the Film Rewind
Knob will rotate, indicating that the film is advancing properly

Push on the Auto / Flashmatic Lever ,Q, and turn the
Auto / Flashmatic Ring @ until the "Auto" marking aligns with
the red, Shutter Speed /Auto lndex Line @ Your camera will
now select the proper f-stop for the shutter speed you select.
As long as the meter needle is within the yellow zone, all you
need to do is focus and shoot!

   i ri, For stopprng fast actron subjects rike sporting events,
 select the fastest possible shutter speed lighting conditions
 allow
  i {  , \ Should the meter needle in the Viewf inder (see
 "Viewfinder" section) stay below the  f 1 7 setting, adjust the
 shutter speed to the next slowest shutter speed until the
 needle moves out of the red, Underexposure/ Use Flash
 Warning Zone When using shutter speed settings of /uo
 second or less, use a tripod or other firm support to minimize
camera movement
 ,r'i "Your camera is equipped with a "8" (bulb) setting for time
exposures To set the camera in the " 8 " setting:
1) Push in the "8" Lockout Lever @, then rotate the shutter
Speed Ring until the "B" setting aligns with the red, Shutter
Speed/Auto Index Line
2) Activate and hold the shutter Release Button @ to keep
the shutter open for the length of time necessary for a proper
exposure For best results, use a tripod and a locking type
cable release.

   When you're photographing at distances of 2 m (6 ft ) or less,
    be sure to compose your subject withtn the Parallax
     Correction Mark to prevent accidentally "cutting off " part

    Once you've checked to be sure the meter needle is within
     the yellow exposure range, just recheck the camera focus,
    make sure the film is advanced and press the Shutter Release
    Button to capture the world around you on  f ilml

    Your Vivitar 35ES has "X" flash synchronization  built into the
    camera Hot Shoe. The camera's Flashmatic System
     automatically sets the correct exposure as you focus. For

 "Manual" Guide Number indicated for the DIN /ASA rating of
 the film being used
  'i'': Select the Guide Number on the camera's Guide Number
 Chart q1) that is numerically closest to the Guide Number of
 your  f lash un  it
 .,,' r Align the selected Guide Number (or Indicator Mark) on the
Auto/Flashmatic Ring with the red, Shutter Speed/Auto Index
Line Your camera is now programmed for the proper
Flashmatic operating range of your flash unit. As you focus,
the System will automatically adlust to the correct f-stop

The Self-Timer Lever g) delays the tripping of the shutter
mechanism for approximately 10 seconds, allowing you to
include yourself in a photograph The camera must be tripod
mounted or placed on a solid support. To use the Self-Timer:

 ; l  I Push the Self-Timer Lever all the way down
 rr"it Press the Shutter Release Button
 ri: r Position yourself in the photograph area within 10

When you've finished shooting the last frame on your roll of
film, you'll need to rewind the film and remove the cassette for
processing.

or "drag") pull up on the Crank to open the camera back.
The exposure Counter will automatically reset Io zero.
qS) Remove the exposed cassette and reload with  f resh  f ilm
or close camera back for storage.

Your camera is equipped with a threaded, Cable Release
Socket @, allowing you to attach an accessory cable release
to the camera The cable release is a convenient way of
avoiding possible camera movement. A cable release is
recommended for use with a tripod when shutter speeds are
 ]/uo second or less, or "8" setting is used.

 die Kamera richtig bei Hoch- oder eueraufnahmen halten.

Dre Belichtungsautomatik  lhrer Vivitar 35ES benotigt zum
Betrieb eine einzige 1 35 V Quecksilberbatterie  (Mallory PX
675 Eveready 675 HS-C/H-C o a)
Diese legen Sie folgendermaBen ein;
r."ri ! Benutzen Sie eine Munze, um den Deckel der
Batteriekammer q) aufzuschrauben
ii::l 1 5s1ten Sie die PLUSPOL-Seite ( + ) der Batterie so ein,                                          ((D")daB sie lhnen zugekehrt  ist (Siehe Abbtldung       Die
Innenseite des Deckels der Batteriekammer  ist mit einem ( + )
gekennzeichnet. um es lhnen leichter zu machen.
{r, i Nun befestigen Sie den Deckel der Batteriekammer
wieder
Vergewissern  Sie sich bitte. daB die Batterie richtig eingelegt
ist und daB das MeBgystem arbeitet Stellen Sie die
VerschluBgeschwindigket auf die rote " 125" ein und richten
Sre die Kamera auf ein hell beleuchtetes Motiv Wenn sich der
Zetger im Sucher Q) bewegt ist es ein Zeichen, daB das
\4eBsystem funktionrert Sollte der Zeiger jedoch am Boden
des Suchers verbleiben,  off nen Sie bitte die Batteriekammer
und versichern Sie sich daB die Plusmarke ( + ) attf der
Batterie lh nen gegen u berlieEt
Die Batterie sollte einmal itn Jahr ersetzt werden, oder, wenn
es den Anschein hat, daB der Zeiger "trage" ist oder in der
rechten unteren Ecke des Suchers bletbt

         cder noch langere verwendet werden, ben utzen Sie ein stativ
         oder eine andere stabile Unterrage, um die Bewegung der
        Kamera auf ein Minimum zu beschranken.
         iS! lhre Kamera ist mit einer "B"-Einstellung fur
        zeitaulnahmen ausgestattet. Um die Kamera auf die        "8"-Einstellung                     zu bringen, gehen Sie so vor:
          1) Drucken sie den "8"-Verriegelungshebel @ ein, dann
       drehen sie den Einstellring fur die Belichtungszeit so weit, bis
        dre " 8"-Einstellung der roten VerschluBzeit /Auto-Marke
       gegen u berliegt
        2) Betatigen Sie nun den Ausloseknopf @ and halten Sie ihn

Wenn Sie bestimmte Motive (z B Sand oder Schnee) mit
auBerst lichtempf indlichem Film (z 3 DIN 27 I 400 ASA)
auf nehmen mochten. kann es dazukommen, daB der Zetger
sich in das "Warnfeld fur Uberbelichtung" bewegt Sollte dies
eintreten. empf iehlt es sich, entweder a) ein Neutralf ilter am
Oblektrv zu verwenden, um die einfallende Ltchtmenge zu
uurringern. oder b) einen weniger lichtempf indlichen Film mit
entsprechendem DIN /ASA-WerI zu benutzen

Sollte sich der Zeiger in das rote Unterbelichtungs-Warnfeld
bewegen. muB die Kamera entweder auf etne langsamere
VerschluBzeit  eingestellt oder etn am Mrttenkontakt  tL)
verbundener Blitz benutzt werden (Srehe " Blitzf otograf ie")

Wenn Sie Aufnahmen bei Entfernungen von 2m oder noch
kurzeren Entfernungen machen, achten Sie bitte darauf  . daB
sich das Motiv bei der Gestaltung innerhalb der
 parallaxen-Korrektur-Marken  befindet, damit nicht ein Teil des
 Bildes "abgeschnitten " ist

 Blrtzgerates am nachsten  lregt
     .  ' ffichten sie die gewahlte Lerlzahl (oder 7-eigermarke) am
 Auto  I -Flashmatic-Rrng so aus. daB sie der roten
 VerschluBzeit /Auto-Marke gegenuberliegt lhre Kamera ist
 letzt fur den richtigen Flashmatic-Arbeitsbereich  lhres
 Blltzgerates prograrrmiert Wenn Sie einstellen, stellt sich das
System automatisch auf den richtigen Blendenwert ein


 B0Der Knopf @ des eingebauten Selbstauslosers verzogert
 die Auslosung des VerschluBmechanismus um ungefahr 1o
Sekunden und macht es Innen so mogrich selbst auf die
