you be sure that vou ]ravc chosctr sell.
In this catalogue vou lvill find a series of eflicient, sound Voigt-
llndcr cameras. Everv singlc rnodel incorporates the experience of
gencrations, for the firm of \roigtlandcr is alreadv over 175 ]'ears old
and has nradc itself knorvn all over the l'orld through thc farne of
its products. If You choose a Yoigtlantlcr }'ou havc the guarantee that
you have chosen the best and rnost modern that can be Dlocured in
the rvorld's market.
Nhich t1'pe of camera you rvill select depends on the sort of pic-
tures you desire to make, in addition to personal taste and the amount
rvhich you intend to 'invest'. The first group is the "Brilliant" series.
The "Brilliant" is a rollfilm box shaped camera rvhich is unique on
account of the large and rvonderfully clear finder picture. The fact
that the fr:ture picture can be scen so brightly and clearly before and
during the exposure rnakes this calnera a f:rvourite rvith the ladies.
The "Brilliant" caneras are horver.er, eyen the most simple model,
valuable exanrples of modern precision rvith rvhich the serious amateur
can rvork perfectly.
l'he next series is the folding type of rollfilm cameras. They can
be folded up in a flat lorm and are easily slipped in the pocket. Many
people like them for sport pictures and for travelling and long excur-
sions, bccause they take up so little room.
The third group is the plate carnefa type, with Nhich you can
focus thc picture sharply on the ground-glass. 'Ihey are preferred by
the serious workers who wish to get the very best picture out of every
possible exposure. With the ",,\vus" and "Tourist" cameras which have
over double extension, a range of Focar lenses can be used, thus
making the camera a real universal instrument.
AII the possibilities of the Voigtlander cameras cannot, of course,
be mentioned in this short introduction. Fundamentally all thfee types
of apparatus are suitable for all types of picture. This rapid survey is
only intended to make your choice a little easier, so that you can find
the camera lvhich suits your requirements more quickly. Whichever
camera you choose, you will certainly regard it with great appreciation,
if it is a "Voistlander".

The photographic lens is a conrbination ol simple lenses rvhich must,
as you knorv, project the subject to bc photogr:iphed as sharply as
possible on the light-sensitive surfacc. In the carly daSrs of photo-
graphy all sorts of lenscs and combinations rvhich u,cre used for purely
opticrl purposes Nefe tried out. It
                              becarnc apparent horvever that these
lenses had all manner of faults rvhen
                        used photographically. A sensation
                              rvas therefore created when P. W. F.
Voigtlander, in ihe year 1840, con-
structed a large aperture lens F/3.7,
                         which rvas specially designed for
                            photographic purposes by Professor
Petzval. To-day rve find these specially
designed lenses, rvhich must be as free
as possible lrom the various faults, in
all good cameras; they are known as
                                 "Anastigmats".
Now the term 'Anastigmat' is, unfoltunately, no guarantee, as, for
instance, 18ct lor gold. The term only signifies that some correction
has been made, of faults, just more or lcss, there being no absolute cor-
rection. but the amount of exactitude rvith lvhich these far:lts are
corrected is decisive in determining the 'goodness' of any lens. The
advice, that you should choose a really'lvellknorvnand tried anastigmat,
is therelore not an advertising rnanocuvre but honest, valuable
counsel. When one as the visitors to our works has seen how - -
many tests each individual piece of glass, each simple lens, and finally
the completed lens undergoes (rvith our Heliar lens there are 106tests),
one can readily understand why some manufacturers are less particular
and exact in order to save the cost oi work, testing, and rejections -but then they would not be "Voigtlander Anastigmats", for rvhich -
and we mean for each individual one we undertake a guarantee. -

no coldness and hardness, but a soft sharpness rvhich mitigates the
break betrveen the sharp and unsharlt zones; it does not make parts oi
 the pictufe unpleasantly hard but
gives the rvhole a natural harmonious

about it is that it is not specially
suited for any particular type of
 picture but commands the rvhole
scale from portraiture to sport pic-
tures. Hence the title "tr{aster Lens"
and hence the five elements, forming
 the perfect ',vholel
  The difference in construction
betrveen the Skopar and the Heliar
naturally makes itself felt in the
price. The Heliar has not onlv orle

cheaper and absolutely equal to the
work; the experienced amateur and
the connoisseur, who value pictorial
yet sharp definition, will use the
Heliar.
  The various lenses of diflerent
focal lengths given under the various
cameras will all cover the olate

It is a rvell tried, handy foltling camera for critical people. The normel
apertule \roigtar F/6.3 lens rnakes instantaneous exposures possible
untler almost any light conditions. The camera can be had with a

yourself in photos rvithout difficulty.
In spite of the lens aperture, the Bessa is very easy to use because
it has the well knorvn "Three Point focussing" ("Portraits", "Groups"
and "Landscapes") rvhich rve have already read about in the Brilliant'
In addition to the brilliant finder the Bessa is equipped rvith a fratne
finder, 'lvhich is of great assistance rvhen photographing moving ob-
jects, enabling you to see the subject in actual size.
The solid leather covering of the body is bordered by nickelled
edges, it not only looks nice in the shop-rvindow but remains so in use'
The Bessa is a first class Voigtlander camera and is not expensive in
spite oi its rvonderful equipment.

With the Stereflectoscope you make two pictures at the same time
which differ slightly, thus corresponding to the two impressions re-
ceived by the httman eyes. Il you llow place a positive of this picture
in a steieoscope you rvill see only one picture, but this rvill be plastic'

properly described. Go to some dealer and ask ]rim to show you some
stereo photographs; you rvill be astounded.
In addition to the trvo taking lenses, the Stereflectoscope has a finder
lens; all three lenses are identical Ileliars F/4.5; the Ileliar on account
of its 'plastic'definition is absolutely unrivalled for stereo photography-.
The trvo taking lleliars are mounted in an automatically coupled
Stereo-Compur shutter (1/xoth sec.). The linder Fleliar proiects its
picture on to a ground-glass just like an ordinary plate camera with
ihe exception that this picture is not at the back of the camera nor
is it uositle down. It is in the top of the camera shielded by a folding
light hood and the right lvay up. You can focus rvith ncedle point
           sharpness on this ground-glass.
Tb further facilitate accurate focussing there is a hinged magnifying
lens in the light hood- The Stereflectoscope has, in addition to the
mirror reflex iinder, a frame finder with diopter and a spirit level to
assist in holding the camera correctly.
You can relt on the leather covered changing-box to work perfectly
under all condltions on account of its beautiful rvorkmanship and the
absolute efficiency ol the sheaths. It is designed to tal<e 12 extra thin
