INTRODUCING THE WARDFTEX
Your Wordflex comero is o precision lwin-lens reflex
comero thot mokes l2 Picfures, opproximotely 2'/+x2%
inches, on fi t 20 roll film, either block-ond-white or color.
It is colled o twin-lens reflex comero becouse it hos two
motched lenses: one used for focusing ond composing the
picture, ond the other for octuol picture toking. Both
move together so thot when the picture in the viewer is
cleor, the picture you toke will be shorp.
The lenses ore Telmer f /3.5,80mm focot fength, ond
ore hord cooted to tronsmit more light ond moke shorper
pictures.
  The comero hos o T. K. K. shutter with speeds from I
to 1/2OO second ond Bulb.
Flosh synchronizolion is closs F.

Before looding the comero, reod the following instruc-
lions corefully ond study the illustrotions. You will find
it helpful to go through the operotions severol times until
you ore thoroughly fomilior with the comero. lt is only

     TO OPEN THE VIEWFINDER HOOD
To open lhe viewfinder hood (B), hold the comero in
one hond ond simply lift up lhe top. The hood is spring-
octuoted, ond remoins opened or closed os you set it.
CAUTION : before closing the hood, moke certoin
lhot the focusing mognifier (A) is in its normol
  folded position (A2).

   VIEWING OR COMPOSING THE PICTURE
You hove o choice of viewfinding methods. Most of the
time you will probobly use the ground-gloss (or "reflex-
type") viewfinder. With the hood (B) opened, turn the
lens toword the obiect to be photogrophed ond look
down on the ground-gloss. A full-sized imoge will be
visible on lhe ground-gloss. Except thot it is reversed
left-to-right, it is the some os the picture you will get.
When using the ground-gloss, focusing is done ot the
some time os composing. Turn fhe focusir':g knob (F)
until you con see your subiect cleorly. This outomoticolly
focuses the comero, ond is one of the chief odvontoges
of reflex-type comeros. For more criticol focusing, lift up
the focusing mognifier (A, A2) from its normol folded
pcsiticn ogoinst lhe front of the hCod (B) ond lcck ot
the ground-gloss imoge through it. Then there is no doubt

oboul shorp focusing. The mognifier moy be returned to
ploce simply by pressing down on it. To photogroph
fost oction shots or in other situotions where ground-gloss
viewing is not desiroble, o direct viewfinder (C, U) or
"sports finder" is provided. Hold the frome of the finder
 (C) ond push bockword on the center ponel unfil it locks
into ploce ogoinst the bock of the hood. Then, holding
the comero of eye level, o viewfinder is formed by lhe
smoll squore (U) in the bock of the hood ond the lorge
squore (C) in the front. The front ponel moy be returned
to ploce by pressing the smoll button (V) on the bock
of the hood.
            FOCUSING
Under mosl circumstonces the best method of . focusing
your comero will be through the ground-gloss os des-
cribed obove. however, o footoge scole (G) is olso
provided on the focusing knob qF7. You con meosure or
estimote how for owoy from the subject your film is ond
set the footoge scole (G) for thot distonce. Together
with the depth-of-field scole (n), this footoge scole is
used for most fost-oction shots. An exomple is perhops the
best woy of describing the operotion of the depth-of-
field scole. Suppose you ore using o fost film outdoors ot

on othfetic event, ond thot your operture setting is t/16.
By plocing the infinity mork ("") on the footoge scole
opposite the forword l6 on the depth-of-field scole, you
con tell ot o glonce thot oll obiects between infinity ond
12 tt. (the foctoge mork opposite the bock 16 on the
depth-of-field scole) ore in focus. For exomple, ofter
setting the comero in this woy for the first shot, you con
then photogroph oll oction beyond 12 tt. from you (or
whotever distonce is shown for the operture you ore
using) ot o footboll gome, ice show, or the like, os fost
os you con shoot ond wind the film, provided the light
doesn't chonge. Such pre-focusing is olmost imperotive
for mony oction shots.

           THE SHUTTER
The shutter ollows light to poss lhrough the lens ond foll
on the ftlm for q controlled period of time. This comero
offers o wide ronge of shutter speeds to slop oction or
to shoot in very poor light. To set the shutter speed you
wont, turn the shutter speed setting ring (K) so thot
the red mork on it is opposite the shutter speed you desire.
The numbers shown for shutter speed ore froctions of o
second; thot is, 200 represents 1/2OO of o second, 25

os long os you hold the shutter releose open. Before
toking o picture, the shutter must be cocked by pressing
down on the shutter cocking lever (J).

WARNTNG : Do not ottempt to chonge shutter
speeds with the shutter cocked. lf necessory to
chonge speed, first hold lhe lens cop or your hond
over the bottom lens ond releose the shutter. This
   will prevent exposing the film.

To toke the picture, push the shutter releose (M) with
on even steody motion to your left os you hold the
comero, or use o coble releose in the coble releose
socket (L). Form the hobil of odvoncing the film to the
next number immediotely qf ter pressing the shutter
releose to prevent possibility of double-exposure (over-
lopping pictures). For slow-speed exposures with the
shutter set ot B (bulb) or other speeds from one
second up to obout | /25 second, it is odvisoble to
ploce the. comero on o tripod or other firm support,
since for periods of time longer thon 1/50 or 1/25
second it is impossible for mosl persons to hold <r

comero steody enough to obtoin shorp pictures. A tripod
socket (T) is locoted on the bottom of the comero.

             APERTURE SETTING
The operture is on opening between the lens elements
thot is formed by on odiustoble diophrogm. lt determines
the omount of light thot posses through the lens in o
given time. The diophrogm is set by the diophrogm
odiustment lever (R). A system of "F stops " or " F
numbers " is used to indicote the relotive size of the
opening. At f /3.5, the moximum operture, the diophrogm
is wide open. At f /22, it is completely "stopped down."
To see how the diophrogm operotes, open the comero
bock (see section, Looding the Comero), set the shutter
speed setting ring on bulb, then cock ond trip the shutter.
Hold the shutter releose to keep the shutter open, ond
look through the lens. Move the diophrogm odiustment
lever bock ond forth - - you con see the diophrogm open
ond close ond see the size relotionship between the
different "F numbers" ond "F stops."

it hos o Europeon-type flosh connection. The shoe-type
flosh units moy be ottoched directly to the comero body
by meons of the occessory clip (X). The flosh connecting
cord must be ottoched to the flosh post terminol (N).

          FTASH SYNCHRONIZATION
Your comero will moke flosh pictures with oll stondord
flosh bulbs. You con use electronic flosh only if it is set
for F-deloy (5 milliseconds).
Any shutter speed from I second to 1/1OO second (or.
bulb) moy be used with gos-filled (closs F) flosh bulbs
such. os SM ond SF types. These bulbs do not furnish
os much light os most of the wire-filled bulbs below,
but they hove greoter obility to stop oction, which lessens
the chonce for blurred oction piciures. Regordless of
how long the shutter is open, they furnish light for only
obout 1 /2OO second.
Any shutter Speed from I second lo 1 /25 second (o,
bulb) moy be used with wire-filled (closs M) flosh
bufbs such os fr5, fr25, n8, ? ll, ond fr40. The chief
odvontoge of these bulbs is thot they hove considerobly
greoter light output thon do the Closs F bulbs obove.
They furnish light for obout 1/50 second.

Anolher type of flosh bulb is the new M-2. lts chief
feotures ore greot compoctness ond the lowest cost
of ony flosh bulb. lt con be used from I second to
l/25 second, (or bulb) ond is best suited for foirly
close shooting where the oction is not loo fost.
Closs F bulbs sre recommended with this comero for most
uses. However when (l) using slow-speed film, (2)
shooting ot consideroble distonce or outdoors, or (3) you
need to shoot of smoll opertures, greoter light output is
required ond the closs M bulbs ore recommended. The
need for greoter light output con be determined from
the tobles on the instructions boxed with eoch roll of film,
from the pockoge oround the floshbulbs, or from pocket
flosh colculotors. One other cose where closs M bulbs ore
desiroble is when you ore using color film specificolly
"color-bolonced" for closs M lomps.
Electronic flqsh units moy be used only if they ore set
for F-deloy (S milliseconds). Any shutter speed from I
to 1/2OO second moy then be used.

         LOADING THE GAMERA
Never lood the comero in bright direct light. lf there is
no shode ovoiloble, even your shodow helps. To put film
into the comero, open the comero bock by lurning the

O (open). (These morkings, C ond O, ore stomped on
the sofety lock ond do not refer to picture code letter).
Pull out the film spool knob (Y) ona ploce the new roll
of j 120 film on the spindle in the empty film chomber.
Unwind obout 4 inches of the poper bocking covering the
film ond insert the topered end of the poper into the slot
of the spool in the toke-up chomber. Be certoin thot the
film is centered evenly on the toke-up spool, otherwise it
moy climb one end of the spool ond iom or teor the
poper. Wind the film obout three-quorters of o turn with
the film winding knob (D) to moke sure the film bocking
poper is engoged in the toke-up spool.
Close the hinged bock ond turn the sofety lock clockwise
from the morking O toword the morking C until it stops.
Open the red window (E) ond turn the film winding knob
until the fi t on the ftlm bocking oppeors. The film is now
in position to moke the first picture. Keep the red film
window closed ot oll times except when winding the film.
This is especiolly importont when using high-speed
ponchromotic films. www.butkus.us
Following eoch exposure, open lhe red window ond wind
film until next number oppeors. After the twelfth picture
hos been exposed, turn the winding knob until oll of the
film is wound onto lhe toke-up spool.

To be reody for the next roll of film, move the empty
film spool from the film chomber to the toke-up chomber.
           EXPOSURE
With eoch roll of film the monufocturer encloses informo-
tion to obtoin best exposure results with the film. Follow
the guide on the film.

          GENERAT INFORTIATION
Keep the lenses of your comero cleon. A dirty lens or
roin or mist on the front lens will couse unshorp pictures.
To cleon the lens use o lens tissue or soft linen or cotton
cloth. Keep the inside of your comero free from dust
ond dirt.
It is not good proctice to leove your shutter cocked for
extended periods of time. lf it is cocked ond you wish
to uncock it, ploce the lens cop or the heel of your hond
over the lens ond press the shutter releose. With o little
