INSERTION OF FILM
The Arelte is designed for the perforoted miniqlure film (35 mm)
normolly supplied by lhe lrode in rolls ol 20 or 35 exposures (size
24X36 mm).
To operr lhe bock of fhe comero fhe lwo milled knobs ore pressed
ogoinst eoch olherwilh thetlrumb ond index f inger of lhe right hond.
The lopered end of lhe film, projecling from the film corfridge, is
.folded lhrough lhe middle ol the fhird perforolion hole (A) in such
o woy thot, when lopered end of lhe film is pushed through lhe slof
(morked wifh o red dot) of lhe foke-up spool, fhe red clip of this
lotler enlers inlo lhe soid lhird perforolion hole (B). The film lhus
is proiected ogoinsl ifs being pulled oul during the winding operotion.
The film cortridge is lhen inserled inlo lhe cossetfe chomber of lhe
comercr, sller the bockword winding knob (10) hos been fully
exlended. A.s soon os lhe cosselfe is in its correcl posilion, lhe re-
wind knob (10) is pushed bock ond by lurning in the direclion o{
the orrow lhe film is stioighlened, so lhot it lies on lhe focol plone.
The bock woll con now be reploced. Before loking phologrophs

FILM TRANSPORT
To odvonce film, move tronsport lever (2) os for os it will go. The film con be odvonced
only by fhe lenglh of one frome ol o time, since the buill-in inferlocking device prevents
double exposure. To ensure uniform spocing of exposures on your film, foke core lo
move the quick-oction universol lever (2) to its full exlent. The frome-counler (22) moy
otherwise foil lo show the correcl number, lhough this is o minor moller with no beoring
wholsoever on lhe performonce of the ARETTE, being complelely concelled oul on the
nexl winding oction.
FRAME COUNTER
When the film hos been inserled, the film slrip prolruding from lhe cosselfe will olwoys
olreody hove been exposed. Belore lhe first exposure is mode, lhis seclion of the film
should be odvonced by lwo or lhree lurns (lronsport ond releose). Only when fhis hos
been done should lhe frome counler disc (221 be brought to ils slorting position by de-
i pressing the knurled knob wilh lhe finger tip ond setting the disc, by movement lo righl or left, of "O".
FILM INDICATOR
lmmediolely ofler inserlion of f ilm, the lilm indicolor (23) must be set ot
its correcl volue. To do this, depress the smoll knurled bullon wilh lhe
lip of your finger. The indicolions "Colour posilive", ond "Colour
negolive" denole posilive ond negotive colour films respecfively.

The Pronto shutlet con be used wilh exposure limes 1lz;, r/:,0, rl:r,o, llzoo second ond for posilion B. Exposure times con be sel eifher before or ofter cocking lhe shutter. Only lhe exposure . limes shown on lhe engroved scole ore ovoiloble. Inteimediole limes connol be set. lf the morker slonds between lwo exposure fime volues on lhe scole, eilher fhe longer or lhe shorter exposure will be releosed. RELEASE The shuller is rele_osed by groduolly pressing f he releose bullon (3) downwords lowords the right wif h . the foref inger, unlil lhe ihutter operoles. Avoid sudden or jerky movemenls, whit result in blurred piclures. For'lime exposures, sel exposures lighl B. The shutter will now remoin open so long os pressure is reloined on li.gt ring (7) ol lhe button. Should o coble releose be used, lhis musl be scrJwed inlo lhe socket (4). For extro long exposures, il is odvisoble to use coble releqse wilh locking device. The self-timer is operoled by moving leflwords the lever which pro-
lrudes from beneolh lhe lens mounfing ond is provided wilh o smoll red I
knob. Exposure lhen tokes ploce 8 seconds ofter depression of lhe III releose bulton. With this shufler fhe self-timer is locked when lhe shuller
is set of B (lime exposure); the exposure limes setling ring (7) connof be
set ol B while the self-timer mechonism remoins cocked.
The sequence of operolions is immoleriol. The self-fimer moy be
cocked eilher before or ofler windlng lhe film.
CONNECTION OF FLASH CONTACT
To connect floshlighl, insert flosh coble inlo fhe socket (14) on lhe shut-
ler. To ensure thot the flosh will occur exoclly during lhe momenlory
opening of lhe shuffer, core must be token lo set lhe correct exposure time ond, wilh
lhe Pronlor SVS shufler, lo move lhe selling lever (15) lo its correcl posilion. No
theorelicos colculolions ore here required, provided you follow lhe indicolions given
in lhe Toble on lhe following poge, which con be summorised os below:-
o) With flosh fubes (eleclronic floshlight) oll exposure times con be used.
b) For flosh bulbs o{ oll fypes, set shuller time of 1/zs sec.

FItM REWINDING
When lhe film hos been exposed (i. .., ofter 20 or 36 exposures), noliceoble resislonce
is fell when ollempling furlher winding, o sign fhot the end of lhe film hos been
reoched. Do nol be misled if fhe counler (22) now shows some olher figure lhon lhe
expecled 20 or 35. This occurs when il hos been impossible lo odvonce the lilm by o
complefe lrome during the losl winding oclion, lhe lenglh of film hoving been exhousfed.
Before opening the bock ponel, you musl lirst wind fhe film bock inlo its cosselfe. Sel
rewinding lever (11) of neufrol by moving it in direction R. Then pull ouf, lo obloin o
grip on il, rewinder knob (10), but pull oul only slightly, unfil o slighl resistonce is fell.
By roloting this knob in the direclion of the orrow, you con wind ihe film bock inlo its
cosselte. You will knob from lhe chonge in the sound mode by lhe film ond from the
decreosed resislonce when lhe rewinding is complele. Moreover, lhe frome counler (22)
then no longer rotoies. Now open the bock ponel ond remove lhe film - which is now
bock in ils originol colridge - lor development. Do nol omil to return lhe rewinding Iever (1 1) lo ifs originol posilion.

Relioble ossessmenf of the desired picfure is exlroordinorily
simplified by the use of the reflecled frome viewfinder, When

porlonl funclion, for lhe quonlily of light lo which lhe film is exposed cqn olso be
controlled by other meons, {or exomple by the choice of shuller speeds ond the use of
colour fillers. In modern pho{ogrophy the chief lunction of lhe diophrogm is rolher thol
of delermining lhe ronge of odequole definition, lhe so-colled deplh of {ocus. This

COTOUR FITTERS AND LENS HOOD The focussing ring (4) of lhe ARETTE lens hos on inner threod lo enoble colour filters, lens hood or supplemeniory lenses for close- ups lo be screwed on. Colour filfers ond supplemenlory lenses hove o double lhreod so thol they con be screwed inlo one onother os required. ll is quile possible lo oltoch o supplemenlory lens, o colour filler ond o lens hood securely lo the lens. Core should be token, however, lo odhere lo lhis sequence. For phologrophs loken ogoinst fhe light ond for colour phofo- grophs o lens hood is obsolulely essenliol. Use lhis lens hood, pleose, on oll occosions. Lens hood ond, if necessory, one colour filfer con be left per- monenlly offoched, if you wish to close the Ever-Reody cose, lhe lens hood is merely turned bockwords.
