Attaching Your Flash to the Camera

1. lf your camera has a hot shoe contact, insert
the Mounting Foot of your flash into the
camera's accessory shoe clip. Make sure it is
inserted to all the way. Then tighten the flash
by winding the Lock Ring. Your flash is now
fully synchronized with'the camera through the contacts in the shoe. In this case the Synchro W
Cord is not necessary. (Read your camera owner's manual for details on W
 the flash synchronization.)
(Hot Shoe Contact: The term refers to the round
metal plate which you can f ind in the center of
 your. camera's accessory shoe clip.)www.butkus.us

sory shoe clip like the procedure in the No. 1.

the Synchro Cord Socket on the f lash. Plug the

How to Determine Exposure

1. Set your camera to the correct shutter speed
for electronic f lash. (Refer to your camera
   owner's manual. )
2. Focus your camera and estimate the distance
from the flash to the subject.
3. .Read the proper f-stop on the Distance Calcu-
lator Diagram by referring to the distance and
the ASA or DIN f ilm speed. Set 'this f-stop on
   your camera lens
Formula for f-stop: Use this handy formula for
    figuring out the f-stop.
Guide Number * Distance = Lens Aperture (f-stop)
EX. When using a ASA 1OO film and standing6m (20feet) f rom a subiect.
Set the lens f-stop to f4 eq + 6 = 4)
 4. Slide the On-Off Switch to "ON". Aim your camera at the subiect. Take the
picture when the Ready Lamp glows.

When Used with Camera Equipped with Built'in Automatic Flash Control
Some cameras automatically set the correct exposures forflash as you focus.
When taking pictures with such a camera and your Nissin 4OOH Flash, read carefully
your camera owner's manual in advance. Then set the correct flash guide number for
the film you are using on the guide number scale of your camera.
Hints for Maintenance and Better Flash Photography:

     Remove Batteries
*' lt is recommended that if you are not going to use the flash more than 24 hours,
remove the batteries from the Battery Compartment. The failure of a tlash unit to
function properly is mostly resulted from the negligence that the user has left the ,,oN" while the batteries are left in the battery compartment. As a result flash switch
., it causes a battery drain which then corrodes the circuit plate inside the battery
compartment and the flash unit itself.
(Save Battery Power) lt is a good idea to turn off the flash when you do not use
           it more than several minutes.

Use your flash to improve outdoor pictures, especially when your subiect is under a
shadow or tree, or when bright sunlight is shooting the subject from behind causing
hard shadows over the subject's face. The use of flash eliminates squinting and
shadows and help bring out natural facial expressions on the subiect. Flash photo-
graphy is also useful on cloudy days.

         Flash Care
Keep your flash unit away from dust and moisture to prolong its life. lt is a good idea
l to bring out your flash unit from storage and shoot it once or twice a month.

      WARNING:
Do not use nickel cadmium batteries.
Do not try to open or repair your f lash uiit, sance the electric circuit inside carries a
high voltage. lf your fla*r needs repair or does not function properly, take it to
where you bought it from or to your nearest electric repair strop. Opening the flash
         unit voids the warranty.
