To set shutfer speed, lurn the diol until the correspond-
ing number is oligned with the red dot. B (bulbl-ln
this setting the shutter leoves ore opened when the
shutter releose button is pressed, ond will remoin open
until it is releosed. B is used when exposures of longer
thon one second qrp desired. The numbers I through
500 stond for froctions of o second. i. e. | - | sec.,
2:r lz sec., etc. through 50O - | /50Q sec.
For the correcl speed, en3ure thqf the number is per-
fectly motched with the red dol. The diol moy be
turned in either direction. Speed moy be set either
before or ofter odvoncing the ftlm.
Rotory Metol Focol Plone Shutter
The newly designed shutter on the Pen F is completely different from
other types of focol plone shutlers. lt conloins o semi-circulor titonium
screen (50 mm diometerl which rototes in q clockwise direction ql o distonce
of 1.6 mm from the fflm.
This shutter works so ropidly thot regordlesr of shutler speed it never
foilt to open completely, moking it possible for on electonic flosh to be
synchronized with it ot speeds of from I to I /500 of o gecond. (With
other focol plone shutters this is impossible when speeds exceed t /60 th

Boyonet-mounted lenses for the Pen F ore eosily removed ond
reploced. On the bose of the lens there ore two butlons, one of
which is morked with o red L (lockl. This is the lens releose
button.
Firsl, hold the comero in the left hond ond grosp the bose of the
lens with the right hond. Then press the lenr releose button with
the thumb of the right hond ond turn the lenr in o clockwise
direction until it rtops. The lens is removed by pulling it owoy
from the comero body.
To remount the lens, insert it corefully into the body, oligning the
red mork (8) on the lenr with the red dot on the body. Turn the
lens in o counter-clockwise direction until the lenr releote button
(Ll returnr with o click.
It is not necesrory to moye the lenr releose button when mounting
the lenr.
It lockr into ploce outomoticolly.

The unmorked button on lhe bose of the lenr ir
cqlled the " pre-view bullon ". Even ofter the
operture on the Pen t is sef, it will not close
down to lhis opening unles lhe shutter releose
button ir prested. At oll other times the operl-
ure is wide open. This completely outomolic
operture rystem ollows focusing ond froming ol
full brightness.
The pre-view button on the Pen F closer lhe
pre-set opening, moking ir possible to see the subiect through the viewflnder with
the 3ome brightners 03 thot of the operture setting. (See Section I l, Depth of
Focus Scole.l This ensures perfect focusing of both subiect ond bockground.
The ring which is oround the top of the lens body is the lens operture rcole

Even when the distonce to the subiect is short, or o telephoto lens is used, the subiect is PORROPRISMSYSTEiI FINDER perfectly fromed in fhe viewfinder. Not only is it possible to copture the feeling of distonce Mirror Prism ond bockground, but the full eftect of color is ossured. Directly behind fhe lens is o rectongulor-shop- ed mirror which swings horizontolly on o Uoi pivot. The left ride of the mirror is q focol Mognifler o o oEdi-t plone. Depth of focus chonger, depending upon the lens focusing distonce ond operlure opening.
When thir ronge is brood, the depth of focus is soid to be "deep". To mqke the
depther of focus deeper, either lengthe.;r the lens focusing distonce or reduce the size of
lhe operlure opening. A ihird method ir to focus upon on obiect which is further from
lhe comero thon fhe subiect.
Urlng Depth of Focu:
Depth of focus csn be odiusted by moking lhe operlure opening torger or smoller. Both
ncor ond for oblects con be brought into focur by rcducing the operlure opening. For
portroit pho?ogrophy the subiecl con be emphorized by enlorging the operlure opening
to toke the bockground out of focur.
