 THE ACUIECAMERAAND CHANGINGBOX.

Into this Camera the amateur may put a dozen plates and bring
home, after a day's tramp, from twelr'e to forty-eight views. He
ffiay, at will, expose any desired one of the twelve plates and.
take upon it either one, two, three, or four pictures. The adjust-
ability of the lens front is such as to allow of the lens being brought
in front of the centre of either half or quarter of the plate, or of the
whole plate. A simple and infallible index enables him to do all this
with absolute certainty. Plates of different makers, or of different
degrees of sensitiveness, may be used, with absolute certainty of
being able to get at the ones wanted for different grades of exposures
or subjects. As each quarter, half, or vi'hole plate picture is made,
the corresponding portion is narked off on the index card and a
memorandum made of the essential particulars of the exposure. The
index card may be consulted at any monrent without opening the box

card may be put away with the plates till time of development, and,
after serving as a guide to that operation, ffiay be filed away as a
memorandurn of what was done on that day or trip.
The focusing glass rernains always in the box, and, consequently,
cannot be lost, left behind, or broken.
A focusing cloth is furnished with each camera, properly fitted and
               attached to it.
While the storage compartment keeps the sensitive plates at all
times absolutely secure from the light, the camera may be opened.as
often as necessary for focusing. In arranging a half-plate or quarter-
plate view upon the focusing glass, the unused portion of the glass is
covered by the same sectional shields that are to be subsequently
used in making the view. Thus the operator is sure of getting on the
plate exactly what he arranged on the glass.
Every camera is provided with both vertical and side swing. One
side only is used for exposing the whole twelve plates, and this one
is never removed from the box, but is simply drawn out to its full
extent, when, being flexible, it drops down out of the way.
One lock secures both the cover and the slide. Consequently,
either exposed or unexposed plates may be left in the camera without
fear of all being ruined by sorne inquisitive or meddlesome person.x Each Acme camera and changing box comprises r mahogany
eamera, hilhly poli'bhed, holding rz plates, with both vert'ical and
horizontal swing, best rubber bellows,'attached focusing cloth, sliding
and revolving front, lock and key.

holder, and twelve or twenty-four new plates or films may then be in-
serted and exposed without going into a dark room.

arranged that the plates or films stored in the camera are exposed one at
a time, as desired, and then by the simple pressure of a spring, each
plate, af ter exposure, is dropped into a reservoir at bottom of the camera,
where it may remai4 urrtil the whole are exposed or be removed earlter
for development, as desired. The plates may be changed and the
camera refilled in broad daylight, the process being simplicity itself.
Accompanying the camera is a magazine which is filled in the dark_room,
and which holds, like the camera, either rz plates or 24 films. When itx is desired to refill the camera, this magaz\ne is fitted on the back of
camera in the same way that a ground glass is attached to an ordinary
box, and by drawing tr.vo dark slides, one from the camera and the other
from tlte magazrrre) the entire lot of fresh plates are deposited in position
to be exposed in rotation ; the slide is tht:n returned to back of camera
and the empty magazrne detached, after which it is secured at the bot-
tom of the carnera and slide drawn therefrom, when the exposed plates
rvill drop into the magazine. The slides are now both replaced and theF
magazine, full of exposed plates, detached.
Ttre size of this camera is only ro] x 7i x 6i, while the magazine
measures only 6f x 6 x zS. It is fitted, as above stated, to carry either
glass or films, or both, the turning of two metal catches adapting it to
ttre different thicknesses of either, ancl owing to this drfference in thick.
ness 24 films may be carried, as against r z giass plates.
This camera is covered in black leather, witlt ,black metal trimmings,
and is unsurpassed for neatness of appearance. It is provided with a
