For the outomotic exposure control, the film speed volue hos to
be set. This is done by lifting the milled ring of shutter-speed
s e t t i n g k n o b ( 1 ) o n d r o t o t i n g i t u n t i l t h e s p e e d v o l u e o f t h e f i l m
in tht comero (DlN or ASA) on scole (12') stonds opposite the
w h i t e i n d i c o t o r ( 1 3 ) . W h e n l o w e r e d , t h e m i l l e d r i n g c l i c k s i r r
next to the selected film speed numerol.
The metol-bloded focol-plone shutter con be set for exposure
speeds ronging from 1 sec. to 1/1000 sec. When set on "8" the
shutter tetoini open os long os the releose knob (3) is being
depressed. For exposures of o longer durotion o coble releose
with locking device should be used, which con be screwed into
the threod in the body releose knob. For exposure speeds irr
connection with flosh units pleose refer to Section 0.
The slow speecl exposuresfrom 1 sec. to 1115sec. ore morked on
the scole of the shutter-speed setting knob (1) by oronge-
coloured lrurnerols.For exposuresto be mode of these speeds o
o t r i p o d i s r e q u i r e d . T h e v o l u e s f o r i n s t o n t o n e o u s s h o t s f r o m '30 1 sec, to 1 /1000 sec. ore morked in white.
The exposure speeds ore set by rototing knob (1) until the desired
n u m e r o l c o i n c i d e s ' w i t h t h e o r o n g e - c o l o u r e d t r i o n g l e ( 1 0 ) o n
the cover plote of the comero. Pleose note, when setting the
e x p o s u r e s p e e d s , t h o t t h e m i l l e d r i n g o f t h e s e t t i n g k n o b m u s t
not be lifted up since this would olter the film speed settinq ond
couse the outomotic exposure system in the PRAKTICA LTL to
give incorrect results,
The exposure speeds con be set either before or ofter the shutter

Focusing on the microprism screen The imoge in the microprism screen is in correct focus os soon os it oppeors cleor ond free from fuzziness. lt is out focus if it fook s f uzzy ond shows screen elements. The microprism screen is preferred for focusing if the subject to be photogrophed is q u i t e s t i l l o r o n l y s l i g h t l y m o v i n g . Focusing on the circulqr groundgloss qreq The groundgloss oreo is used for focusing it there is more move- ment in the scene. Also, it is often most oppropriote in ultro- c l o s e - u p so n d i n p h o t o m i c r o g r o p h y . The Fresnel section of the viewfinder is not meont to be used in Microprism: unshorp screen is fuzzy Microprism: shorp screen not luzzy f o c u s i n g . The depth of f ield is determined by meo ns of the depth -of -f ield s c o l e ( 1 8 ) o r r o n g e d o n t h e r i g h t o n d l e f t o f t h e r e d i n d i c o t o r o n t h e l e n s m o u n t . The lid (29) is screwed out with the oid of o coin ond the new
bottery p loced into the com po rtment with its positive pole
( r o r k e d * ) f o c i n g t h e l i d . T h e l i d i s t h e n s c r e w e d o n o n d f o s t e -
n e d w i t h t h e o i d o f o c o i n .
S i n c e t h e b o t t e r y i s u s e d o n l y f o r t h e s h o r t p e r i o d o f m e o s u r i n g

The PRAKTICALTL is o highly voluoble precision instrument.Per-
fect functioning of the cdrero depends very lorgely on proper
hondling ond coreful mointenonce.
The comerq must, obove oll, be protected ogoinst shock, dust
ond moisture. Thot is why the everreody cose should be used
wherever possible.
From time to time the cortridge chomber ond spool chomber,
olso the film trock ond comero bqck with film pressure plote
must be cleoned with o soft brush. But be coreful not to exert
pressure on the steel blodes of the shutter or to touch them with
your fingers.
Neither should the opticol ports (lens, eyepiece of viewfinder,
mirror) be touched. Should this hove hoppened, however, ony
fingerprints must be removed immediotely with o piece of fine
linen ofter o soft brush hos been used to remove ony possible
dust. Speciol literoture on the occessoriesfor the PRAKTICA LTL,which
ore only briefly mentioned here, will be sent on request.
The mirror should be dusted only in urgent coses with o very soft
b r u s h . We request you kindly to follow these Instructionsfor Use core-
