Using Green Confidence Light (14) The green confidence light indicates if enough light will be reaching your subject for good exposure in automatic mode. lt lights when the flash computer determines that the light is correct. The green light is particularly important when you're using bounce flash, shooting in a very large room with a high ceiling, shooting with domes, or if you're on the outer limit of your shooting range. To use, make a trial test flash using the test trigger button (15). lf the green light comes on take your picture when the ready light (13) glows with confidence of grood exposure. lf the green light does not come on, reduce flashto-subject distance, select another range, or change flash technique. After you take your picture the green light will come on to indicate you have a correct exposure. Taking Pictures Automatically 1. Slide the Mode Selector (11) to your preferred range and depth of field. 2. Set the indicated f/stop (8) on your camera lens. Example: For ASA 1 00 f ilm and 4 - 20 ft. range, the proper f/stop (8) for your camera lens is fi4. 3. Turn On-Otf switch (12) On and take your picture any time after the ready light (13) glows. 10View original page 11

Using the Dome Diffuser The dome supplied with your Beta 4 softens shadows and adds extra dimension to your flash pictures. The dome will provide coverage for 28mm wide angle lens. Just use your normal flash photography procedure except for the following: Automatic Operation The green light feature of your Beta 4 is your best assurance of good exposure. In each automatic setting, the maximum distance will be one half of what it would be without a dome. No other adjustments are required. Manual Open your camera lens by two f/stops from the f/stop derived from the calculator or the guide number chart. EXAMPLE: For ASA 100 film at 14ft., the f/5.6lens setting would change totl2.8 when the dome provided with your Beta 4 is used. The dome snaps over the flash head of your Beta 4. To remove the dome, simply lift forward on one of the side tabs. Printed in JapanView original page 13

www.butkus.us Using Your Beta 4 Bounce Feature The general procedure is the same as for normal flash pictures except for the following: 1. In automatic operation, using a test flash and your green light (14) will be your best assurance of proper exposure since conditions vary from one situation to the next. 2. Automatic operating ranges for bounce will be only 1/3 to t /2 of normal, for example, the 40 ft. range would be only 14lo 20 ft, for bounce. 3. Manual bounce in an ordinary room with white walls and ceilings will require opening your camera aperture approximately 3 f/stops. Example - An f/8 for normal flash would be changed to afl2.8setting for manual bounce. 4. The tilting flash head (1) has a detent at 60'for horizontal bounce. For vertical bounce, an alignment mark is provided. Using angles less than this may result in combination bounce and direct lighting. 5. With color film, if the bounce surface is any other color than white, your subject willtake on that color in the finished photograph. Remember that the above are guidelines only. Your own experience will indicate when more or less exposure is required to obtain the desired results. 12View original page 14
