Stereoscopic Photography

{THs STEREOSCOPIC VIEW WAS MADE WITH THE MODEL XVIII CONLEY STEREOSCOPIC CAMERA.
STEREOSCOPIC PHOTOGRAPHY is intensely interesting, as no picture is more fascinating than a stereoscopic
photograph, but many photographers have a mistaken iden that stereoscopic pictures are diffcult to make. ‘As an actual
voter of fact they are just as easy to make as any other photograph, provided one is equipped with the proper apparatus.
"Augone who can operate a camera of any kind can operate a stereosopic camera and can make high clase sereosopic
pictures.
‘A STEREOSCOPIC VIEW SEEN THROUGH THE STEREOSCOPE brings the original scene before us
ina way that seems like magic, so wonderful isthe effect of distance, depth, relief and solidity. The marvelously true to life
ina mrcne, everyhing seemingly fll lifesize; the wonderful det the perspective, the figures sringing up inthe foreground
‘as distinct and real as if actually living, make the stereoscopic ‘view a most delightful entertainer. Seen for the first time, the
at cat is almost startling, and yet the making of these wonderfully lifelike pictures is just as simple as the making of ordinary
‘single photographs.
STEREOSCOPIC VIEWS ARE MADE with ‘a double camera, a special camera fitted with two lenses which
make two simultaneous exposures of the same subject side by side on the same plate, These two pictures differ slightly
from each other because the two lenses with which they are made ‘are about 314 inches apart and, therefore, the picture
which one lens makes is from a slightly different viewpoint than the picture made by the other lens. ‘One lens takes a little
rove of the right hand side of the subject and the other lens a little more of the left hand side. Now, when these two pic-
sore ove mounted side by tide on a card and looked at through a stereoscope they are combined by the prismatic lenses of
the tercoscope, appearing as one picture, and this picture seems to stand right out from the card with an effect of realty and
distance that is truly remarkable.
parently jut alike, become, when seen through the sereosope, a singe picture. apparently full lifesize, with everything
‘standing out in relief just exactly as if you were looking at the ‘object itself instead of a picture.View original page 2Page 3 · Read text
