Shutter Speed Selection
The Vivitar XC-2has a shutter speed range of 4 seconds to
1/1000 second, plus "8" (Bulb) for Time Exposures and a
"M" (Manual 1/50 second) setting, which can be usedin the event of-battery failure. To set the shutter speed, turn
the Shutter Speed Dial until the desired shutter speed
is aligned with the Shutter Speed Index O on the camera
body. When using shutter speeds below 1/30 of a second,
it is advisable to use a tripod and cable rerease to eliminate
the possibility of vibration due to camera movement. The

Time Exposures
When making time exposure photographs, your camera
should alwayl be tripod-mounted and used with a locking

For time exposures of over 4 seconds in duration:
1 Align "B" setting on Shutter Speed Dial with the
Shutter- Speed Index.
2 Advance f ilm and press in on tip of cable release to
open- the shutter. Turn cable release lock to hold shutter

Depth of Field Your lens features a Depth of Field Scale (@ ,
which allows you to select the zone of focus which will
appear in the final photograph. Under normal lighting
conditions, selecting a larger aperture opening (eg: f2.B

focus while eliminating distracting elements in the
foreground or background of your photograph. Under the
same conditions, selecting a smaller aperture opening
(eg: f '1 1 or f 16) will allow you to maintain sharp focus
on both near and distant objects. (See Photos "E" & "F").
Exposure Balance System
Your Vivitar XC-2 incorporates an electronically controlled
Exposure Balance System, which is automatically program-
med when you set the ASA Dial for the proper rating of the
film you are using. The electronic Exposure Balance System
(null meter function) responds immediately and precisely to
the slightest change in subject lighting or shutter speed/
aperture control settings Three LEDs (Light Emitting Diodes)
are positioned above the viewf inder to display under, over
or correct exposure conditions.

The Exposure Balance System LED Display is positioned
above the viewfinder, where it is readily visible (see
photo "D"). To activate the Exposure Balance System
LED Display:

a) the Shutter Speed Dial is at the mechanical "B' ' or "M"
setting or b) there is insuff icient battery power remaining
to actuate the electronic shutter mechanism (should
this occur, the batteries should be replaced immediately).

Spot/Average Metering Systems
Your Vivitar XC-2 provides two separate through-the-lens
metering systems one for "Spot" readings and one for"Average" readings.-
"Spot" Readings
When the Meter Switch @ is moved to the red "Sp"
setting, the metering system will read approximately 10%
of the image seen in the viewfinder. The area covered is
approximated by the -l symbol below the microprism

The "Spot" metering system should be used for obtaining
correct exposures whenever your key subject is illuminated
differently than the surrounding area (e.9., shaded subjects

making multiple exposures on a single frame of film' To
use this option:
