  the carrying case.

LOADING FILM

1. To unlock back cover, turn the tripod
  socket in the direction marked "O".
  Then open the Back Cover by swing-

2. Remove the Take-Up Spool  in the

5. Flip up the Film TransportCrank and
  slowly wind  it clockwise so that the
  wider slot of the Take-up Spool in
  the  Upper  F ilm  Chamber  faces
  upward. Then gently draw out the
     f ilm leader and thread it  f irmly and
  evenly into the slot.
6. Gently wind the Crank clockwise.

LENSOPENINGAND
SHUTTERSPEED

1. The arrow points to the Lens Open-
   ing and Shutter Speed ScaleWindow.
  The  letter  "f "  on  the  left  of  the
  window  indicates lens opening and
   "sec" indicatesshutter speed.

   the Control Wheel with your right-
  hand thum b either up or down as
   indicated by  the  arrow. The  red
   shutter speed f igures should be set so
   that the red line in the window runs
   exactly through the center of  the

   Control Wheel with  your  left-hand
  thumb either up or down as indicated

SIGHTINGTHE SUBJECTAND
FOCUSING

Your Yashica-MAT is a twin-lens ref lex
camera. The  lower  lens takes  the
picture. The upper lens is for focusing
and composing on  the  grou nd  glass
viewing screen.
1. Open the focusing hood by lifting it
   at the back.
2. Rotate the Focusing Knob until your
   subject on the ground glassscreen is
  sharp. The bright round lens in the
  center of  the ground glass viewing
  screen enables you to obtain a sharp
  focus and should be the center of the
   picture you are composing on  the
  screen. The red lines on the screen
  help you  to  judge proportion and
  proper composition. Compose your
   subject on the ground glassviewing
  screen as vou would like to see it in
   the f inal picture.

MAGNIFYING GLASS

1. Raise the Magnifying Glassby press-
   ing the front of the Focusing Hood
  Cover inward, holding the Focusing
  Hood so that  it does not close.When
  using the MagnifyingGlass,placeyou
  eye as close to the MagnifyingGlass
  as possible.
2. Always make sure that you have f irst
  lowered the Magnif y ing G lass before
  closingthe FocusingHood.


SPORTSFINDER

Sight your subject through the Sports-
finder Window.
 1. Depress the Focusing Hood Cover
   u n t i l    i t  c l i c k s  i n t o p l a c e . L i f t   t h e
  camera to your eye level.
2. Push the ReleaseButton to close the
  H ooC Cover.

TAKING FLASHPICTURES
'/our Yashica-MAT of fers M-X synchronization.Your cameradealer
will be glad to supply the proper f lashattachment for your camera.
As you become proficient at taking plctures, you  will want to
acquire accessoriesthat increase the versatility of your Yashica-
MAT. One of the f irst accessoriesyou will want will be a flash unit.
Your camera is ready and waiting. Synchronization for   f lash is
built-in. A standard PC connector plugs into the flash ter.minal.The
battery case is attached to the camera via an arm that screws into
the tripod socket.
 Do not use Short Peak Bulb with "M" Synchronization.
Move the selector to {gopition  when using the electronicf lash.
 F LASH PICTUR ES
Correct exposures f or flash pictures will be obtained easily and
correctly by consultingthe guide numbers printed on the packageof
 the  f lash bu lbs.When tak ing color   f lash pictures, you may need
 filters or have to use proper bulbs according to the type of films
 (Day-lightor Tungsten)you are using.

After  all 12 pictures have been taken,
wind the Film Transport Crank about 6
times to  take u p the remaining  f i lm.
Sometimes the crank may catch when
the film comes to the end of the spool.
 In that case, don't forcefully turn the
crank ; just open the camera and remove
the  f ilm. The tail end of  f ilm has stuck
 to the slot of the sPool.

When you focus the cameraon a subject
there is a certain distance in front of
