FEATURESOF THE
SUPERIKONTA 2rla"x3tlau
The high-speed, colour corrected, and coated zEISs
TESSARf lZ.S-t05 mm has proved its efftciency already
for some decades; it furnishes black and white as well
as colour photographs of unmatched deftnition and
plasticity.
The setting of the distance is done by meansof the
rotatinQ-we dge ty|e r ang efinder, which without using
a sensitive mechanical gearing permits exact focusing
of the lens.
The van Albada sports finder allows an exact deli*i
tation of the picture ffeld even in the caseof quickly
nrovingsubjects.
The SynCbro-Compur shutter is marked in speeds from
1 sec. to l/soo sec. with bulb and is equipped with _a
flash synchronisation contact and a delayed action
release.
If lighting conditions are good, the red-dot setting of
the suprR IKoNTa.2rl+" xSrl+" permits snapshotswith-
out circumstantial focusing, since everything from
16 ft to inffnity is recorded sharply when using the
1 , , red-dot setting. I
All these features mark the suppR IKoNTe' 2Ll+" xSLl+"
as a camera preferred by arnateurs as well as by pro- ; fessionals, scientists, and reporters. t

OPENING AND CLOSING
THE CAMERA
The camera is grasped with one hand from behind
and is slightly tilted forward.A pressureon button (8)
brings the baseboard and the viewftnder into the
working position. If due to wrong handling of the
camera the struts (23) should not open completely,
the camefa can at once be brought into the taking
position by pressingdown the baseboard. After this,
the pivoted arm of the rangeftnder (10) must be
swung out.
For closingthe suPERIKoNTA2rla" xSrl+", swing back
the pivoted arm of the rangefinder (10). Now the
upper parts of the struts(23) are simultaneouslypress-
ed back with the thumbs, so that the baseboardis
raised and the camera can be closed. Then closethe
viewftnderby pressingdown the frame with the eye-
piece.
The supERIKoNTAmay be closedat any position of
the focusingscale, with the shutter set or with ftlters
fitted on the lens. Thus the camera can be kept in-
stantly ready for use.View original page 6Page 7 · Read text

HO\)T TO HOLD THE CAMERA
In order to obtain negativesof maximum sharpness
the cameramust be held absolutelymotionlessduring
the exposure.For horizontalpictures2rla" x37la" it is
advisableto hold the camerain the palmsof the hands
with the ftngers surroundingit. The index ftnger of
the left hand releasesthe shutter(2).
For vertical pictures 2rl+" x3rlE" the cameramust be
held mainly with the right hand, while the left hand
supportsit from below. The thumb of the left hand
presseson the shutterrelease'button(2).
Vith the 731+"x21l+"picture size,i. e. when using a
reducing mask, the camera is held exactly the other
way round. When holding the camera vertically it
will take horizontal pictures 731+" x2r I +", whereas
vertical picturesl3la"x2rla" are obtainedby holding
the camera horizontally. Long instantaneousor time
exposureshave to be made from a tripod or other
solid support. It is advisableto use a cable releasein
this case.

THE REDUCTION MASK When this position is used, the bulb is ffred at the
moment when the shutter is wide open. Electronic
flashesare always fired with position X.
P O S I T I O N M
This position servesfor ffring flash bulbs, using a
pre-ignitionthat correspondsto the ignition delay of
most flash bulbs. This is the reas0nwhy position M
allows ftring of flash bulbs in conjunction with even
the shortestshutter speeds.
The delayed action release can be used for flash
photographsin conjunctionwith the X position.Our
table indicates the exposuretimes to be used with
positionsX or M for the varioustypes of flash bulbs.
FLASHPHOTOGRAPHS
The fully synchronisedCompur shutter has provision
for two positions(X and M).
After setting synchro-switch(18), exposuretime, and
lens aperture, cock the shutter, ftt the flash cable to
contact nipple (15), and insert the flash bulb. On
pressingthe release(2) the flash bulb is ftred in ac-
cordancewith the synchronisationsetting used and
the shutter action.
