Set the shutterreleasemodeselectorleverto "L" (to turn the poweroff).
Use six SUM3alkalior lithiumbatterres.
1. Raisethe batterycase detach lever,turn it in
the directionof the arrowtowardsthe "OPEN"side
and pull off the batterycase.
2. Load the batteriesin the directionsindicated
by the "(D"and "O" marks on the batterycase.
lBe sure to set the batteries in the proper
"(D" and "O" directions.
3. Attach the battery case to the camera, then
turn the batterycase detachlevertowardsthe "Q"
side. Be sure the batterycase is firmlyattached.

Checkingthe BatteryPower

Look into the viewfinderand turn the diopteradjustmentdial so that the focusframe can
be seen clearly.
Turn in the "-" directionif you are farsighted,in the "*" directionif you are nearsighted.
lf the focusframe cannot be seen clearlyeven usingthe diopteradjustmentdial, use a
separatelysold dioptercorrectedlens (DE402if you are nearsighted,DE403 if you are
farsighted).
*Point the camera at a bright, plain object such as a white wall when making this
adjustment.

Replacingthe diopter corrected lens
1. Removethe dioptercorrectedlens (DE401)
from the camera.
Pull the diopter correctedlens downwardto re-
move it.
2. Push the replacementdioptercorrectedlens
upward into the viewfinder'seyepieceframe to
mountit.
*lf there is dirt or dust on the lens surface, remove it with a blower or sweep it off
gently with a lens brush.
*lf there are fingerprints or dirt on the lens surface, wipe it off with a piece of
clean, soft gauze.

Attaching
1. Remove the camera's body caps
using Lens ReleaseButton @ (see
opposite page) and the lens's
fronUrear caps.
Graspthe lens front cap ring and remove.
Turnthe lens rear cap in the directionof the ar-
row and remove.
2. Mount the lens.
Align the lens's alignmentdot @) with the
camera'salignmentdot (E, fit the lens into the
cameraand rotatethe lens in the directionof the
arrow until it stops.When a click sound is gener-
ated,the lens is mountedonto the camera.
*Do not touch the distance ring or other ro-
tating parts during the auto focus operation.

Removing
While holdingdown the lens releasebutton@,
rotatethe lens in the directionof the arrow untilit
stops,and releasethe lens from the camera.
*Rfter removing the lens from the camera body, protect them by attaching the
caps.
*Oil, dust, fingerprints or water on the electronic contacts could result in mal-

Installingthe Batteryin the Roll-FilmHolder
The batteryis used to supplypowerto the LCD panel when the roll-filmholderis used
alone.When the roll-filmholder is attachedto the camera body,the power is supplied
from the camerabodY.
1. Remove the battery cover.
Inserta coin or a similarobject into the slot on
the film holder'smemorybatterycoverand open
it by turningin the directionof the arrow.
2. Load a battery.
Insertthe batteryaccordingto the polarityindica-
tion @ in the batterycompartment,and closethe
battery cover.
Batteryused:CR2032
llnsert the battery in the proper "@" and "O"
directions.
*When the battery has run out, remove it immediately and replace with a new
battery. Otherwise accidental battery fluid leakage may damage the contacts.

Setting the Film Speed
The film speed (lSO sensitivityvalue) is the referencefor all exposureand must be set
correctly.lf the set value differsfrom the actualvalue of the film in use, under-or over-
exposuremay occur.
1. Pressthe O (up) button.
When the LCD paneldisplaysinformation,press
and hold the O (up) buttonon the bottompart of
the LCD displayfor morethan 1 second.The ISO
indicatorwill blink.
2. Set the film speed.
Set the film speed of the film by pressingtfre O
(up) or O (down)button.To finallyset the speed,
press and hold the two buttonssimultaneously
for more than one second;thefilm speedwill be
writtenin memory in 5 seconds.

*The setting is not complete while the ISO indicator is blinking.
*The information on the film in use, such as the type, ISO sensitivity value and
number of exposures is stored in the back-up memory, However,when the bat-
tery capacity has dropped during stand-alone use of the roll-film holder, the
information may not be shown by the LGD panel.
*The information on the film (type,ISO sensitivity and number of photos) is stored
in the memory, but when the battery power is low this information may be dis-

Attaching/Detachingthe Roll-Film Holder
When the camera is not loadedwith batteries,the shutterprotectionmechanismof the
camerais active(duringthis,the shutteris kept open to protectthe shutter)so the dark
slideshieldcannotbe pulledout evenafter the roll-filmholderis attachedto the camera.
The film windingand shutterreleaseoperationsare also lockedduringthis period.
Attaching
1. Removethe camera'srear body cap and the
roll{ilm holder'sprotectioncap.
2. Fit the body couplerat the bottom of the roll-
film holderintothe slot on the film holdermount-
ing bracket(bottom)of the camerabody @.
3. Push the roll-filmholderagainstthe camera
body,fit the film holdermountingbracket(top)of
the camera body @ into the slot of the roll-film
holderand lockthem.
Automatic shutter opener/closer
In orderto protectthe shuttermembrane,when the roll film holderis removedthe
shutteris lockedin the open position.
When the rollfilm holderis mounted(and the batteriesare charged),the shutter
closesand is unlocked.
Easy loading mechanism
There is no need to line up the film'sleaderpaperstart mark. The rollfilm holder
automaticallydetectsthe first frame of the film, regardlessof the position.

Loading the Film in the Roll-FilmHolder
1. Open the back cover of the roll-film
holder.
While holdingdown the roll-filmholder'sback
cover lock releasebutton@, push the back cover
button@ in tne directionof the arrowto open the
back cover.
2.Take out the roll-film insert.
While holdingthe roll-filminsert'sreleaselatches
@ with two sides with your fingers,pull out the
roll{ilminsert.
3. Set the film type (12Oor 220).
While pushingthe roll-filminsert's1201220pres-
sure button@ switchingshaft,set the type of the
o film used by liftingand turningthe pressureplate.
@ *Be sure to align the lock pins with the holes
@ n on the pressure plate.The film type should (// be displayed when the film is loaded on the
roll-film holder.

4. Attach an empty spool to the roll-
film insert.
Flipthe roll-filminsert'slowerspoolclip "SPL"away
from the spool,fit an empty spool betweentake-
up spoolstuds€, and returnthe spoolclip "SPL"
to the originalposition.
5. Set the film.
Flipthe roll{ilminsert'supperspoolclip "FlLM"
away from the spool,fit a roll of film as shown in
the illustration,and returnthe spoolclip "FILM"
to the originalposition.

6. Attach the leader paper of the film
to the empty spool.
Gentlypull out some of the leaderpaper,insert
the tip of the leaderpaper into the take-upslot of
the emptyspool,and rotatethe spoola few times

7. Attach the roll-film insert with the
film onto the roll-film holder
While holdingthe roll-filminsert'sreleaselatches
G) from the left and rightwith your fingers,fit the
roll-filminsertinto the film chamberof the cam-
era body as shown in the illustration.Then push
in the sectionsindicatedby the arrowson the both
sides;theclawson the two sidesare opened,and
two clicksoundswill be generatedto indicatethat
the rolljilm insertis locked.
*mafe sure that the claws on the two sides of the roll-film insert are engaged
tightly with the roll-film insert. lf one of them is not engaged, shake the roll-film
holder while pushing down the projection @ on the non-engaged claw until a
click sound is generated to indicate correct locking of the roll-film insert.
8. Close the back cover.
Push in the upper part of the back coverfirmlyto
close it.
9. After attachingthe roll{ilm holderonto the cam-
era body, pull out the dark slide and press the
shutterbuttonhalfway;thiswill feed the film auto-
maticallyto frame No. 1.
*lt is not required to align the film start mark, for the roll-film holder will automati-
cally detect film frame No. 1 from any position.
*When the roll-film holder is mounted on the camera body, the mirror and shutter
which has been freed will be set in position.
*Do not wrap too much film around the empty spool. Otherwise the film section
may be exposed to light.
*When the roll-film holder is separated from the camera, the power save mode is
activated in 5 seconds after the start of stand-alone operation and the LCD panel
turns off.To release the power save mode and turn on the LCD panel, press the
O (up) button.
*To prevent accidental film exposure, do not pull out the leader paper too much
or load/unload film under direct sunlight.
*When the film is not wound properly, the counter display disappears and the "- -
" mark appears.

The shutterreleasebuttonhas a two-stepaction,havingmore tensionafterit is pressed
in part way. When pressedlightlyit stops at a certainpoint. In this manualthis position
is calledthe "half-press"position.
When half-pressed,the powerturns on and the camerabecomesfunctional.

Grasp the camerafirmly when taking photos. lf the camera movesthe momentthe
shutteris released,the picturewill be out of focus.
*Grasp the grip firmly,tuck in both elbows and support the bottom of the camera
with your left hand.
*When the shutter speed is slow and when using the self timer, it is best to use a

TakingPhotosin the Full AutomaticMode
1. Set the shutter release mode selector lever to "S"
(single-frameadvance mode).
Thereare two shutterreleasemodes:"S" (single-
frame advancemode) and "C" (continuousad-
vance mode). (See page 45.)
When set to "L", the powerturns off.
2. Set the focus mode selector lever to "S" (single
focus mode).
There are three focus modes: "S" (singlefocus
mode), "C" (continuousfocus mode) and "M"
(manualfocusmode).

auto exposure).
There are four exposuremodes: "P" (program
AE), "Av" (aperturepriorityAE), "Tv" (shutterpri-
orityAE) and "M" (manualmode).

4. Set the exposure metering mode selector lever to
"A-S" (average/spotauto switching).
There are three exposuremeteringmodes: "4"
in which the averagelightof the entirepictureis
measuredwith emphasison the centerof the pic-
ture,"S" in whichthe lightin a spot at the center
of the pictureis measured,and "A-S"whichcom-
binesthese two to automaticallyswitchthe mode
accordingto the extentof differencebetweenthe
brightnessof the lightmeteredin the two modes
and sets the distributionratio of the exposure
meteringmodes within an intermediaterange.
