      Althoughthis Flash unit has been equippedwith numerousfunctions,dependingon the camera model
      beingused some functionsmay have some limitations.Pleaseconfirmthe type camerayou havefrom the
          list below. Please refer to explanationsof each functionthroughthe instructionmanual;   lf no model
       informationis specified,it meansthat this functionof flashcan be usedwith all tvoe of EOS cameras.

   ABOUTTHE BATTERY

       This flash unit uses four "AA" type Alkalinedry cell batteriesor Ni-Cad,Ni-MH, rechargeablebatteries.
     Manganesebatteriescan also be used but as they have a shorterlife than Alkalinebatteries,we do not
     recommendusingthem. Pleasereplacebatteriesif it takesmore than 30secondsto lightthe ReadyLamp.
             I To assureproperelectricalcontiact,cleanthe batteryterminalsbeforeinstallingthe batteries
             I  NiCadbatteriesdo not have standardizedcontacts.lf you use NiCad batteries,pleaseconfirmthat the
          batterycontactstouch the batterycompartmentproperly.
             I To preventbatteryexplosion,leakageor overheating,use four new AA batteriesof the same type and
         brand.Do not mix the type or new and used batteries.
             I Do not disassembleor short-circuitbatteries,or exposethem fire or water;they may explode.Also, do
         not rechargethe batteriesotherthan Ni-Cdrechargeablebatteries.
            I When the flash will not be used for an extendedperiodof time, removethe batteriesfrom the flash,to
         avoidthe possibilityof damagefrom leakage.
    O Batteryperformancedecreasesat lowtemperatures.Keepbatteriesinsulatedwhenusingtheflashin coldweather.
            I As with any flash, it is recommendedyou carry spare batterieswhen on a long trip, or when
        photographingoutdoorsin cold weather.
   BATTERYLOADING

         1. Be sure to set the Power Switchto the off position
         then slide, the batterycover in the directionof the
         arrowto open.
         2. Insertfour AA size batteriesinto the batterychamber.
        Be sure the + and - ends of the batteriesare aligned
         accordingto the diagramin the chamber.
        3. Closethe cover.
        4. Slidethe PowerSwitchto the ON position.Afterfew seconds,the ReadyLampwill light,indicatingthat
          the flash unit can be fired.
        5. Pleasepressthe "TestButton"to be sure that the flash is workingproperly.
    AUTO POWER OFF
     To conservebatterypower,the flash unit automaticallyturns itself off when the flash is not used within
      approximately9Oseconds.To turn the flash on again, depressthe "TEST"buttonor the camera shutter
       button,halfway. Please note that, "Auto Power Off' mechanismdoes not work with wirelessTTL flash
     mode,normalslaveflash,and designatedslaveflash modes.
    ERROR INDICATION
            lf the batterypower is not sufficientor there is electdcinformationerror betweenthe cameraand flash unit,
       the "FlashCoverageAngle"will blinkon the LCD panel.When this occurs,turn the powerswitchoff and on.

ADJUSTINGTHE FLASHHEAD

Depressthe Bounce"Up and Down" Lock and ReleaseButton,and
adjustthe flash headto the desiredposition.
t   f  appearson the LCD panel,whenyou turn on the flash,and if this
  markblinks,thenthe flashheadis adjustedto an incorrectposition.
ATTACHINGANDREMOVINGTHEFLASHTOANDFROMTHECAMERA

Be sure turn off the PowerSwitch.Then insertthe Shoe
Base into the hot shoe on the cameraand turn the Shoe
LockingRinguntilit is tight.
i When you attach or remove the flash, grasp the
  bottomof the flashto preventdamageto the shoe foot
  and camera'shot shoe.
O lf the camera's built-inflash is set in up position,
  pleasecloseit beforeyou attachthe flash unit.
I To removethe flash,rotatethe shoe-lockingring in the
  oppositedirectionof {LOCK mark,until it stops.
SETTINGOF FLASH COVERAGEANGLE

When you pressthe EOOM|button[f  symbolappears.Each time you press the EO-OMIbutton,the LCD
paneldisplaywill changeand indicatethe zoom positionin sequence,as follows.

Generally,in the ETTL(TTL)mode,the flash will automaticallyset the zoom positionaccordingto the focal
lengthof yourlens.
I Whenyouturnon the mainswitch,theflashwillmemorizeandsetthe zoomheadpositionto the lastsettingused.
I   lf youusea lenswiderthantheflashheadsetting,theremaybe underexposedareasaroundtheedgeof thepicture.
I Dependingon the flashheadsetting,the flash'sGuideNumberwill be changed.
WIDE PANEL

This flash is equippedwith built in type wide panel,
which can provideultra wide 17mm angle of coverage.
Slideout the wide paneland flip it down to coverflash's
head.Then the coverageangle settingof the flash will
be set to 17mmautomatically.
i   lf the built-inwide panelcomesoff accidentally,the E00Mi
  buttonwillnotfunction.In thiscasepleasecontactthestore
  whereyouhavepurchasedtheflash,or a servicestation.
LCD PANELILLUMINATION

When you pressthe ltlcHi button,the LCD panelwill illuminatefor about8 seconds.The illuminationstays
on longerthan 8sec,if you pressthe E|GHTIbuttononce again.

In the TTL AUTO Mode,the camerawill controlthe amountof flash lightingto get the appropriateexposure
for the subject.
O "A'type camerascan be set in ETTLmode."B" type camerascan be set in TTL mode.

  set to P Mode.)

      a  When the camera receivesthe appropriateexposure,the ETTL (TTL) mark on the LCD panel will
        appearfor 5 seconds.  lf this indicationdoes not appear,the flash illuminationis not sufficentfor that
         situation.Pleasere-takethe pictureat a closerdistance.
            I The AF AuxiliaryLightwill turn on automaticallyas you focus on a dark area. Note:Effectivedistanceis
       up to about0.7 to 9 meter(2.3-29.5feet).
       J When the camerais set to CreativeZone,pleaserememberthat the flash will be set to the last chosen
      modeeach time.
    O When the flash is fully charged,the flash mark will appearin the finder.lf the shutteris releasedbefore
        the flash is fullycharged,the camerawill take the pictureat a slow shutterspeed,with no flash.
            I   lf the flash rangesbelowapply,the distancerangebar markson the LCD panelwill blink.

       Shutter Speed Priority Setting
      By selectingthe Tv mode of the camera,you can set the shutterspeed from 30sec. to 1/X sync speed.
     When you set the desiredshutterspeed, the camera will select the appropriateaperturevalue for the
      background.lf the subjectis too light or too dark, the aperturevalue indicatorwill blink and show the limit
      values(maximumor minimumaperture).In such as case,the cameraproceedsto take flash photographat
       the limit value.Thus, the main subjectin the picturemay be exposedcorrectly,but the backgroundwill
     becomeunderor over exposed.
      Apertu re Priority Setting
     By selectingthe Av mode of your camera,the camerawill select the appropriateshutterspeed for the
      background.lf the subjectis too brightor too dark,the shutterspeed indicatorwill blinkand show the limit
      highestor slowestshutterspeed value.The highestshutterspeed will be limitedto the camera'snormal
       flash synchronizationspeed. In such a case, the cameraproceedsto take a flash photographat the limit
       value.Thus,the main subjectin a picturemay be exposedcorrectly,but the backgroundwill becomeunder
       or overexposed.
     When used with M Mode
     You can set the desiredshutterspeedand aperturevalue.The sync speedof camerais 30sec.lf you adjust
      exposureaccordingto the exposuremeter indication,the camerawill work as for Daylightsynchronization
       flash or slow synchronization.
   LIMITSOF CONTINUOUSSHOOTING
     To preventoverheatingof the flash'scircuitrypleasedo not use your Flashunit for at least lOminutesafter
            the numberof flash exposures,shownin the belowtable have been made in quicksuccession

  SECOND CURTAINSYNCHRONIZATION
    When you photographa movingsubjectwith slow synchronization,usuallythe furrowof the subjectwill be
    exposedin frontof the subject.The ordinaryflashlighfwillfirewhenthe firstihuttercurtainis fullyo[ened,thus
     the subjectwill be exposedfrom the time flash is fired to the time the shutteris closed (First curtain
     synchronization).Whenyou use secondcurtainsynchronization,the flashwillfirejust beforethe secondcurtain
     beginsto closes,and the subjectwill be exposedby ambientlightfromthe timethl shutteropensuntilthe flash
      fires.As a resultthe furrowof the subjectwill be reiordedOeniiOthe subject.lt will be a morenaturaleffect.
           i  This modecannotbe usedwith EOS TOO,7SO,g50 cameras.

  HIGHSPEEDSYNC (FP) FLASH,A TYPE CAMERASONLY
   When yoy take a picturewith an ordinaryflash,you cannotuse a shutterspeedfasterthan the camera,s
    synchronizedspeed, becausethe flash must fire when the shuttercurtainis fully open. The High Speed
    S.yn.ckeeps firing while the shuttercurtainis running.Thus you can use a shutterspeed faster than the     shutter'snormalsynchronizedspeed.
     1. select the camera'sexposuremode.("Tv"or ,'M"modescan be used)
     2. select a shutterspeedfasterthan the camera'snormalsynchronizedipeed.
     3. Slidethe PowerSwitchof the flashto the ON position.

FE LOCK
'FE"    lockmodeallowsyouto chooseexposurefor the partof the viewfinder,and lockit in, beforetakingthe picture.
 1. Set the camera'sexposuremode ("P","Tv","Av","M" or "DEP").
 2. Set the flash'smodeto the E-TTLor the HighSpeedSync.
 3. Focuson the subject
 4. Focuson the subjectin the centerAF frame of the viewfinder,and depressFE lock button.
 i  Theflashunitwillmakea pre-flashandcalculateandmemorize,theamountof lightnecessaryfor correctexposure.
I  The camera'sviewfinderwill display"FEL"for 0.5 sec and the correctexposurewill be set.
O  lf the viewfindershows I  mark,it means that power is not sufficientfor correctexposure.Pleaseget
   closerto the subjectand repeatfrom step 3.

MODELINGFLASH
Whenthe EF-500Superis used with EOS1V -3 ,-7 (Elan7), a modelingflash can be fired,so you can
checkthe lightingand shadoweffectsbeforeyou take the picture.
Whenthe camerais set to modelingflash,the Flashpanelwill displaythe ffiIililill  symbolautomatically.
EXPOSURECOMPENSATION

You can use flash exposurecompensationin combinationwith normalexposurecompensation(to control
the backgroundexposurelevel)in flash picture.Flashexposurecompensationcan be set 1/3 stopsin +3-
stop increments(or in 1/2 stop incrementswith some cameras).
lThis modecannotbe usedwith EOS 620, 650, 700, 850 and 1000cameras.
1. Pressthe FEL|buttonand select fl                                           ETTt2. Press the [l  or  ll  button to set the desired flash exposure   comoensationamount.                          zoouPErt

4. Focuson the subject.
5. Pleasecheckthat the subjectis withinthe flash rangeas displayed
   on the EF 500 Super'sLCD panel.
6. You can take the pictureafterconfirmingthat the ReadyLightof the flash is illuminated.
I  To cancelexposurecompensation,pleasestartfrom step 1 and choose+ 0 on display.
FB (FlashExposureBracketing)

With FB, you can get bracketedflash shots of the subject,while the ambient exposurelevel remains
constant.The bracketedflash shotscan be takenin the sequenceof correctexposure,underexposureand
over exposure,up to + 3 stopsin 1/3EVincrements(or 1l2EVincrementswith some cameras).
 1. Pressthe F4  button;f,  ! markwill blink.                 ETTt
 2. Press the fi  or EJ buttonto set the flash exposurebracketing   amount.                                  z00MdE tt
 3. F b  twill be displayedafter pressingthe ISetlnuttonagain.          i,/?  Fb 4. Adjustthe focusing
 5. Pleasecheck that the subjectis within the flash range displayed
   on the EF- 500 Super'sLCD panel.
 6. Checkthroughthe viewfinderand confirmthe I  flash chargedmark,and take the picture.
 7. lf it is necessaryrepeatsteps4 to 6.
I  This functionwill be cancelledautomaticallyaftermakingthe third exposure.

MULTIFLASH MODE
  Whilethe shutteris open,the flash will fire repeatedly.By doingso a seriesof imagesof the subjectwill be
  exposedin one frame.A_darkbackgroundwith a brightsubjectshows more effeitivelyin this mode. lt is
  possibleto set the firingfrequencybetweenlHzand 199H2.Up to 100 flashescan be fired continuously.
  The maximumnumberof flashesvaries,dependingon the flashguidenumberand firingfrequencysettings.
  (Pleasereferto table3on the last page).
 O This functioncannotbe usedwith EOS 700, 7S0,g50 cameras.
   1. Set the camera'sexposuremodeto M mode,and set the F number
   2. Pressthe [M4DE buttonuntitthe Mutti-flashmodeappears                ltutTl

 BOUNCEFLASH
 When you take a photowith flash in a room,sometimesa strongshadowwill appearbehindthe subject,if
 you pointthe flash head upwardsor sidewaysto reflectthe lighioff the ceiling,'walletc. the subjectwill be
  illuminatedsoftly.Pressthe lock buttonand adjustthe flash headto set the boi.l'nceangle.
  UP: 0o, 60o, 75', 90"     DOWN: 0',7"
 RIGHT  0o,60o,75',90'   LEFT: O",60o,75o,g0o,120', 150', 1gO"
 when the bounceflash mode is activated,a bounceindicatorf   will appearon the LCD panel.
 The picture will receive the color from the reflectingsurface. please
 choosea whitesurfacefor bouncing.
 Dependingon the reflectingsurface,the subjectdistanceand other
 factors,the effectivedistancerange for the TTL AUTO may change.
 Pleasecheckfor correctexposureconfirmation(ETTLor TTL mark on
 the LCD panel)afterreleasingthe shutter.
 Close-upExposures
 For bounceflash can be tilted 7' downwardfor close-ups.The Flash will be effectiveonly for the subjects
 0.5 meterto 2 meters.when the flash head is tilted7'f  will blink.
 WIRELESSFLASH
 When you use the "WirelessFlash"mode,you can take pictureswith a more three-dimensionalfeelingby
 shadow,or you can make naturalimageby-shadowdependingon the flash position,withoutany extension
 cord connecting the camerabodyand flash.In case of EF-50bSuper,communicationbetweenihe camera
 body and the flash will be done by the light of the flash. In the ;WirelessFlash" mode, the camerawill calculatethe correctexposureautomatically.
 OThe camera models of B type, can be used with "WirelessManual Flash"and nVirelessMulti Flash.
   functionsonly.The EOS750and EOS850cannotbe usedwith "WirelessFlash".
 Oln this instruction,we call a flash unit,which is attachedto the camerabody "Masterunit ", and we call a
   flash unit at a remoteposition"Slaveunit',.
 lWhen you set a slave unit at the desiredpositioi, you can use mini-stand.This mini-standhas a screw   holefor a tripod.
